Caster Solutions & Buyer's Guide: Packaging & Paper Manufacturing
Caster Solutions for Packaging & Paper Product Manufacturing
Packaging and paper product manufacturers rely on mobility throughout production, converting, printing, material handling, storage, and fulfillment. From moving rolls and raw materials to positioning machinery and transporting finished goods, the right casters can make equipment easier to move, control, and maintain.
Caster Connection provides caster and wheel solutions for a wide range of packaging and paper manufacturing applications, including roll carts, packaging machinery, pallet racking, dump bins, printing equipment, binding and publishing equipment, and other material handling equipment.
Explore the resources below to learn how we support manufacturing, material handling, and production operations in the packaging industry with tailored caster solutions.
Move Heavy Loads More Easily
Weight from paper rolls, packaging materials, tooling, finished products, and production equipment can add up quickly, placing significant demands on casters. If they aren't a good fit for the application, they can create unnecessary rolling resistance and make equipment harder for employees to start, stop, turn, and maneuver.

Larger-diameter wheels, high-quality bearings, and wheel materials with good rebound resiliency can help reduce the force required to move heavily loaded equipment. For especially heavy equipment, heavy-duty casters can provide additional load capacity while helping equipment remain manageable.
Managing Stability & Height Constraints
Packaging, printing, and converting equipment may only move occasionally, but when it does, it still needs to be easy to reposition for cleaning, maintenance, line changes, or facility reorganization. The challenge is making that equipment easier to reposition without sacrificing stability once it is back in place. This is where brakes and floor locks come in. Wheel brakes like side lock and face contact brakes prevent the wheel from rotating, while total lock brakes secure both the wheel and swivel. Floor locks can provide additional stability by creating a firm point of contact with the floor when equipment is stationary most of the time.

Height is another important consideration, especially when machinery needs to line up with conveyors, tables, or other equipment. Low profile casters provide a mobility solution for machinery and other large equipment without adding as much overall height.
Find Casters By Equipment Type

Are the stored materials sensitive to shock or vibration? | CC Apex, CC Apex HD, swivel locks, face contact or side lock brakes |
Workstations | Packing stations, assembly tables, inspection tables, tool chests, mobile workbenches | How much does the workstation weigh when fully loaded? How frequently is it repositioned? Does it need to be easy for one person to move? Does it need to stay firmly in place while someone is working at it? Is floor marking or damage a concern? | |
Bins & Containers | Dump bins, scrap carts, recycling containers, bulk material bins | How heavy can the bin become when full? Does it need to fit under conveyors, machinery, or other equipment? Does it need to be positioned precisely for loading, dumping, or collection? Will the casters encounter scrap, paper debris, or other material on the floor? Are the casters exposed to water, cleaning chemicals, oils, or other substances? | CC Apex, CC Nylex, side lock or total lock brakes, stainless steel or maintenance-free rigs where needed |
Printing & Pressroom Equipment | Screen racks, press carts, drying racks, bindery carts, paper carts | How much does the equipment weigh when fully loaded? How often does it need to be moved or repositioned? Does it need to stay stationary during printing, finishing, drying, or another process? Is floor protection important? Will the casters be exposed to ink, adhesives, cleaning chemicals, or washdown? Does the equipment need to fit beneath presses, tables, dryers, or other machinery? | CC Apex, thermoplastic rubber, nylon or polyolefin casters, stainless steel rigs when required, total lock brakes |
Powered & Towed Equipment | Tugger carts, towline carts, AGVs, AMRs, forklifts, mobile racks, powered material handling carts | How fast does the equipment travel? Does it reverse direction frequently? Does it cross joints, cracks, or debris? Does it need to track predictably over longer travel distances? Does the equipment travel between indoor production areas and outdoor yards, docks, or other buildings? Is the equipment powered independently or towed by another vehicle? | CC Nexus, CC Apex HD, CC Dynamo 95A, pneumatic wheels, extended-lead swivel casters, Ideal-Stop brake |
Common Caster Challenges in Packaging, Paper & Publishing Facilities
Managing Heavy Loads
Paper rolls, reels, tooling, machinery, and loaded storage racks can place significant demands on casters. The total weight, how that weight is distributed, and how the equipment moves all affect the required caster's size, materials, tread profile, and more.
Push/Pull Ergonomics & Maneuverability
Frequently moved carts, workstations, racks, and bins need to be manageable at their typical loaded weight and handle height. Wheel diameter, tread material, bearings, configuration, and swivel lead can all affect the force required to start, turn, and keep equipment moving.
Floor Conditions & Debris
Paper scraps, labels, tape, stretch film, floor seams, damaged concrete, and other obstacles can make equipment harder to move. Loose packaging material can also wrap around wheels and axles or embed itself into the wheel treads. The wrong wheel can also increase push/pull force, vibration, caster maintenance, and the risk of damage to floors, equipment, or sensitive materials.
Height & Clearance Constraints
Adding casters can change the working height of machinery, workstations, and other equipment or prevent carts and bins from fitting beneath conveyors and production equipment. Overall caster height, wheel diameter, mounting requirements, and available clearance all need to be considered without compromising load capacity or mobility.
Caster Solutions for Packaging & Paper Applications
CC Apex - Our Most Popular Wheel for Almost Any Application
CC Apex polyurethane wheels provide a versatile ergonomic option for manually pushed carts, racks, workstations, bins, and other equipment where maneuverability, floor protection, debris resistance, and durability are priorities. For higher load capacities without sacrificing excellent ergonomics, check out CC Apex HD, the heavy-duty version.
CC Nexus - The Next Generation of Ergonomic Casters
CC Nexus wheels feature a split-wheel design that minimizes scrubbing and rolling resistance. They are designed for modularity, allowing additional wheels to be added to increase load capacity without increasing wheel diameter. This makes CC Nexus an excellent choice when equipment height constraints are a concern. CC Nexus wheels are also extremely versatile, with configurations suitable for manually pushed, powered, towed, and AGV applications.
CC Nylex - High-Quality Nylon Wheels for Clean Floors
CC Nylex is a heavy-duty nylon wheel designed for low push/pull force and easy maneuverability on clean, smooth floors. Its hardness and flat tread help it roll efficiently under heavy loads, making it a strong option for carts, racks, workstations, and other frequently moved equipment.
CC Nylex is also resistant to moisture and many cleaning and chemical solutions, making it a versatile option for packaging, printing, and other production environments where floors are generally free of debris but may be exposed to liquids.
CC Peak - Maintenance-Free Rig
CC Peak combines ergonomic performance with a maintenance-free design. Its swivel raceway uses a thrust bearing and tapered roller bearing to distribute loads evenly and reduce the force required to start, turn, and maneuver equipment. The sealed raceway is lubricated for life, helping keep dust, dirt, and debris out without the need for routine greasing.
CC Peak is also available in an extended lead version for better tracking in applications where standard casters are prone to flutter, such as powered or towed movement.
