Common Caster Challenges in Construction & Building Materials
Managing Heavy Loads
Stone slabs, glass panels, concrete products, building materials, tools, and production equipment can quickly add up in weight. If the casters are not a good fit for the application, they can create unnecessary rolling resistance and make equipment harder to start, stop, turn, and maneuver.
Rough Surfaces & Debris
Construction sites and building material facilities are rarely limited to clean, smooth floors. Concrete joints, cracks, uneven pavement, gravel, stone chips, glass fragments, dust, and other debris can increase rolling resistance, vibration, and impact. Wheel diameter, tread material, and wheel hardness all play a role in how well equipment handles these conditions.
Push/Pull Ergonomics & Maneuverability
Heavy carts and racks can become difficult to move manually, especially when they need to turn in confined areas or cross uneven surfaces. Wheel diameter, tread material, bearings, caster configuration, and swivel lead can all affect the force required to start, turn, and keep equipment moving.
Protecting Stone, Glass & Finished Materials
The caster may survive an impact that the material above it does not. Shock and vibration can travel through carts and racks into glass, finished stone, tile, panels, and other materials that may be vulnerable to chipping, cracking, or other damage. Wheel material and diameter should account for both the weight of the load and how much vibration can safely reach it.
Water, Slurry & Abrasive Debris
Cutting, grinding, polishing, and other fabrication processes can expose casters to water, slurry, dust, and abrasive material. These contaminants can work their way around wheels, bearings, and swivel components, making sealed components, corrosion resistance, and debris-resistant wheel designs important in some applications.
Stability With Tall & Awkward Loads
Glass sheets, stone slabs, drywall, panels, and other large materials are often transported vertically or on specialized racks. Equipment height, load distribution, caster placement, and the surfaces being crossed can all affect stability while the load is moving.
Caster Solutions for Construction & Building Material Fabrication
CC Apex HD
CC Apex HD brings the ergonomic design of CC Apex to heavier applications. Its polyurethane tread helps reduce push/pull force, protect floors, and reject debris while its cast iron core supports the heavier loads common on material carts, racks, slab handling equipment, and other construction and building material applications.
CC Stout HD
CC Stout HD uses a wide, slightly crowned polyurethane tread on a cast iron core to handle heavier loads without requiring a larger wheel diameter. Its flatter tread puts more polyurethane in contact with the floor than CC Apex HD, helping increase load capacity while still retaining some of the cushioning, floor protection, and debris resistance of high-quality polyurethane.
With capacities up to 2,750 lbs. depending on size, CC Stout HD is well suited for heavy carts, tooling, molds, and production equipment used on indoor industrial floors.
CC Dynamo 95A
CC Dynamo 95A uses a 95 Shore A polyurethane tread on a cast iron core to support the extremely heavy loads unique to construction jobs while still providing some compression to absorb shock and vibration. That balance makes it a strong option for heavy-duty powered and towed equipment, AGVs, AMRs, large transfer carts, and other applications where extreme loads need to move consistently without transmitting as much shock and vibration as a harder wheel.
CC Dynamo 70D
CC Dynamo 70D offers the same heavy-duty durability and load capacity as CC Dynamo 95A with a harder 70 Shore D polyurethane tread. This helps keep tread compression to a minimum under heavy loads, making it a strong option for slow speed towing, AGVs, and other large powered applications.
CC Juggernaut
CC Juggernaut is a super heavy-duty wheel built for extreme loads. Its flat tread is cast from solid nylon rather than injection-molded, creating in a hard, dense wheel that resists compression and supports up to 15,000 lbs per wheel depending on size. Precision ball bearings help maintain the low rolling resistance associated with other hard wheel materials, even under substantial loads.
Solid nylon also resists moisture and many chemicals, making CC Juggernaut well suited for heavy fabrication and production equipment exposed to those conditions.
CC Peak
CC Peak is a maintenance-free caster rig designed for easier swiveling and maneuverability. Its sealed swivel raceway helps protect internal components from dust, dirt, and debris without routine greasing, making it useful around fabrication and production environments. An extended lead version is also available for better tracking in powered or towed applications where standard casters are prone to flutter.
Pneumatic & Semi Pneumatic Wheels
Pneumatic and semi pneumatic wheels are useful when equipment needs to travel over gravel, damaged pavement, rough concrete, or other uneven jobsite surfaces. Their cushioning helps absorb shock and vibration that would otherwise be transferred into the equipment and materials being moved.
