Server Rack Casters
If you are looking for server rack casters, check out our wide selection of electrostatic dissipating casters for server racks.
At Caster Connection, we carry a line of CC Apex ESD casters that are ideal for fitting beneath server racks.
These casters are designed for organizations that manufacture electronic equipment, as well as clean rooms, and medical environments and more. These casters are a great solution for data centers and server racks.
Caster Connection’s CC Apex ESD line of casters are a prime solution for server rack casters because they dissipate electrostatic energy. Electrostatic dissipative material is not anti-static, nor is it conductive. Anti-static material prevents the buildup of static electricity, while conductive material has a surface resistivity of equal to or greater than 10^3 ohms, but less than 10^5 ohms. HOW TO BUY SERVER RACK CASTERS
If you are looking to buy server rack casters, you must ensure that you buy casters that are right for your application. Follow these tips and you will select the right casters for your server racks.
Step 1: Buy the correct weight rating
Server racks are heavy, so make sure you select casters that are rated to carry those weights. The rating you are looking for is called the weight capacity, load capacity or load rating. Casters come in three weight ranges. Light duty casters are for loads of up to 500 lbs. Medium duty casters are for weights of between 501 and 2,000 lbs. And heavy duty casters are for weights of more than 2,000 lbs.
Most server rack cabinets support up to 600 lbs. of internal weight, so you need to look for casters that can handle that capacity. Just remember that server rack casters are rated for the weight capacity of each caster, whether swivel or rigid, and not for the entire set of casters.
Add the weight of your servers and cables to the weight of the server rack. Then add a further 33% of this weight as a safety margin. Then divide that total weight by the number of casters on your rack (likely four casters). The number you get is the weight rating you must pick for each caster on your server rack.
Step 2: Buy the correct type and number
Another thing to consider when selecting server rack casters is that you buy enough of the correct type. There are essentially two types of casters on the bottom of server racks—swivel and rigid. Swivel casters rotate 360 degrees. Rigid casters are fixed and only travel in one direction.
Typically, a server rack is fitted with four casters, one on each corner of the equipment. Two swivel casters on the front of the unit are for maneuverability and two rigid casters on the back of the rack are for directional control.
Step 3: Buy from a caster manufacturer with server rack expertise
Finally, look for server rack casters from a manufacturer who specializes in designing, engineering and building casters for server racks. Caster Connection, for example, has years of experience in this space. Read how a top social media data center fitted its server racks with ESD casters from Caster Connection.
