Providing Stronger Casters for Users of Industrial Magnets

6 81 929 A

End users of industrial magnets such as railroad yards, steel yards and warehouses use casters and wheels on their yard trucks to move the magnets throughout their facilities. These environments require casters and wheels that can hold up in harsh requirements with minimal necessary downtime. All of the end users desire to have a light weight wheel that fits with their application and will endure the rigors of their environment.

A company specializing in industrial strength and commercial magnets came to Caster Connection with deteriorating wheels that were costing them money and time due to failure. The customer supplied large magnets that were attached to yard trucks in railroad yards, steel yards, and other warehouse facilities. The molded rubber wheels they used only lasted about 4-6 months and end users of the magnets were forced to regularly replace the wheels. The magnet supplier wanted a lightweight wheel that would fit their existing units, and that would also last much longer than their previous wheels.

Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster

The magnet supplier worked with a Caster Connection Regional Solutions Manager (RSM) to find a solution. Using his years of experience and knowledge of the industry, the RSM recommended that the customer implement casters with lightweight and durable polyurethane on polyolefin wheels.

After three months of testing, the wheel has shown no signs of deterioration and has improved performance. The magnet supplier and their customers are pleased with the new wheels because they both now spend less time and money on replacing the faulty rubber wheels.
