CC Apex Reduces Push/Pull Force for Ice Cream Cone Maker
A family-owned and operated ice cream cone and cup manufacturer was experiencing difficulty in manually pushing and pulling their 1,500 lb. batter bowls.
The husband and wife team had been using polyurethane on iron wheels to manually maneuver their batter bowls to a different area to be emptied. Not only were the bowls very difficult to push, but the wheels they were using were failing by de-bonding every few months. The manufacturer needed a caster wheel that was much more durable and would reduce the required push/pull force.

The client’s previous caster wheel required a high level of push/pull force and failed frequently. After receiving a phone call from the ice cream cone manufacturer, a Caster Connection Client Solutions Representative (CSR) worked closely with the client to help find a better solution for their needs.
The SSR recommended using Caster Connection’s 8” CC Apex wheel for several reasons:
- The “donut” tread of the wheel reduces the amount of floor contact and lowers friction
- The strong durometer (hardness) of the wheel combined with its design greatly reduces required push/pull force
- The sealed precision ball bearing in the CC Apex makes the wheel easy to begin pushing from a stand-still and eliminates the risk of de-bonding
The CC Apex wheel lowered required push/pull force and performed without failure
Once the wheels were implemented into the manufacturing operation, the clients noticed an immediate difference. The 1,500 lb. bowls were so much easier to use that the client remarked
“Now I don’t have to call my husband for help every time I need to move my batter bowls!"
Six months later, the CC Apex wheels from the client’s original purchase are still in use - already a longer lifespan than their previous wheels - and the client is confident in their purchase. The client intends on using these wheels for anything heavy that needs to be moved around in the future.
