WHAT ARE IMPORTANT ASPECTS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING CASTERS?

APPLICATION
How the casters will be used.

ENVIRONMENT
The setting the casters will be used in. ie. hot, cold, humid, dry, wet, chemicals, etc.

FLOOR TYPE
Floor type must be considered in order to ensure longevity of the flooring and/or caster wheel. i.e. rough blacktop, hardwood, delicate vinyl, concrete, carpet, etc. Explore which wheel type is ideal for certain flooring here.

ATTACHMENTS/MOUNTING TYPES

  • Stem mount
This caster has a stem attachment and typically only comes in a swivel rig/fork/yoke & wheel assembly that will allow rotation of 360 degrees, which permits movement in any direction. They are great for small spaces and are generally considered light duty.
  • Plate Mount
This caster has a top plate attachment with a rigid or swivel rig/fork/horn/yoke & wheel assembly. Plate mount casters are generally used for higher weight loads because of their ability to carry more weight than stem mount casters.

OVERALL HEIGHT
The total vertical distance from the floor to the top of the mounting plate/base of the caster stem.

WEIGHT/LOAD CAPACITY
The maximum amount of weight a caster or wheel will hold. The maximum recommended load per caster or wheel based on intermittent operation over smooth floors at speeds not exceeding 3 m.p.h., with no shock loading or adverse environmental conditions. Gross weight of a truck/dolly should be divided by the number of casters/wheels on which the weight is distributed.

AESTHETIC
Does the appearance of the caster matter to you? Do you work for an organization that requires a particular color or look? Caster Connection’s line of CC Vintage casters is intended primarily for aesthetic purposes.

WHAT IS MEANT BY “STEM SIZE”?

Length and diameter are the 2 components of caster stem size. Watch here to see how to measure each:

WHAT IS MEANT BY “STEM TYPE”?

Caster stem types vary, allowing versatility for the kind of furniture/fixtures/displays they’ll be attached to.

WHAT IS A TOP PLATE?

A top plate is a flat attachment of the caster rig/fork that connects to the object (i.e. a cart).

HOW ARE TOP PLATES MEASURED
Top plates are measured by first measuring the other length and width of the top plate. Bolt-hole spacing of top plates can be measured by measuring the center of each bolt hole to the next, length x width.

WHAT ARE CC VINTAGE CASTERS INTENDED FOR?

Caster Connection’s CC Vintage line of casters and wheels offers the rustic look of an antique, with the functionality and mobility of a brand-new caster. These casters are designed for aesthetic purposes to complement furniture and fixture pieces.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CC VINTAGE CAST IRON, CC VINTAGE RUBBER ON CASTER, AND CC VINTAGE POLYURETHANE ON CAST IRON?

Cast Iron
Our five-spoked cast iron wheels come standard in black, but can be painted to achieve a variety of different colors. The wheels are strong and sturdy with a steampunk-esque look, carrying weight capacities of 260 to 1,200 LBS. per wheel. Because the wheel is composed of cast iron, caution should be used when in use on tile floors or any sensitive surface.

Polyurethane on Cast Iron
The five-spoked polyurethane on cast iron* wheel was created as an alternative to the cast iron wheel. Carrying up to 300 LBS. per wheel, while maintaining the rustic DIY-centric look, they’re able to roll easily and safely on hardwood floors or tile. They’re also non-marking, making them perfect for indoor use.

*Due to the polyurethane tread, polyurethane on cast iron wheels are only offered with a black finish

Rubber on Cast Iron
The rugged rubber on cast iron* wheel is a great 2″ wide wheel that can handle weight loads up to 600 LBS. For those looking for an interesting appearance, these wheels are available with a red or vintage black core, while the rigid caster versions have an optional “V” style fork.

*Due to their rubber tread, rubber on cast iron wheels are only offered with a black finish. Each vintage caster is unique, with different details and may include intentional imperfections (i.e. nicks, scrapes, rust/corrosion, blemishes) for aesthetic purposes.

WHAT KIND OF CC VINTAGE CASTER RIGS/FORKS DO YOU OFFER?

CC Vintage casters are available in a rigid (stationary) style or as a swivel (turning style) rig. Swivel casters have a variety of different mounting options.

Rigid forks are available in three different styles:

  • V2 – The 1-1/4″ and 2″ wide forks (4″ diameter wheel and up) come in a “V” style (with a V-shaped cut-out).
  • The 1-4″ wide forks (5″ diameter wheel and smaller) are available in a standard branded CC Vintage rig.
  • 2″ wide forks (4″ diameter wheel and up) are available in our “vintaged”, sturdy CC Crest rig.

*Rigid forks are only available with a top plate.

The 1-1/4″ option is available with top plates, grip stems, expandable adapters, and threaded stems.

Swivel forks are available in 1-1/4″ and 2″ wide. The 2″ wide version is only available with a top plate.

WHAT’S THE ACTUAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CC VINTAGE CASTERS AND ACTUAL ANTIQUE CASTERS?

Actual antique casters are expensive and unreliable because, well…they’re old. How do you know that our CC Vintage casters are build to last? CC Vintage Casters are new casters chemically treated to look aged, meant for industrial, commercial, and in-home appliances.

HOW COME UNCOATED CC VINTAGE CASTERS HAVE VISUAL IMPERFECTIONS?

In order to provide a look of authenticity, each CC Vintage caster is unique, with different details, and may include intentional imperfections (i.e. nicks, scrapes, rust/corrosion, and blemishes) for aesthetic purposes.

WHAT BRAKE TYPES DO YOU OFFER FOR CC VINTAGE CASTERS?
